Dearest readers and travel companions (in spirit), I would like to thank you all for reading my blog posts and for following my journeys. It was time to take my blog to the next step in order to grow it, so I have decided to move it on a self hosted platform.
The domain remained the same – holidayonmymind.com but I am confused about wether you guys get notifications from it or not. In any case, please pay me a visit at https://holidayonmymind.com where I will publish regular travel guides as I did here, but also a few extras. See you there 🙂
Valencia was first mentioned in the 2nd Century BC as a roman colony. Its name actually comes from the latin Valentia which means “strength” or “valour”, a Roman practice of recognising the valour of former Roman soldiers after a war. With 2000 years of history, 45 museums, 30 parks, gardens and 16 theatres Valencia makes the ideal destination for holidays, cultural breaks, family travel, romantic escapades and solo trips. Valencia has two official languages: Spanish and Valenciano which is a dialect of Catalan. If you want to sound more like a local (even though the backpack and camera will shout “hey I am a tourist”) say “Bon dia!” instead of “Buenos Dias” and then mix and match with phrases from that “Learn Spanish in 6 Weeks” booklet you carry with you. “I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life” (Barbara Bush). This is why moments when you get to bond with the dear ones are the key to a happy family. Continue reading “5 Reasons to go on a family vacation”
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think about Maldives? It’s water hotels and endless beaches for me. I have always wanted to wake up on the ocean, which is why I would love stay at one of those hotels, but there are more reasons for which Maldives is a priority on my bucket list. Maybe you are reading this blog post bundled up on your way to class or to work or maybe you are reading it after you have been shoving snow all morning. Or maybe winter is your favourite season and you hate me for talking about spring already *eyes roll*. In any case, while we are still in the middle of winter (sorry to remind you) and I had to pay a fortune on a new pair of winter boots *£15* (I could have just saved that for travel purposes you know) I will tell you something my friend. Spring will be upon us eventually and now is a good time to make plans for March, April and May and see if that’s going to warm you up a little.

Did you know that Chicago is the third biggest city in the United States after New York and Los Angeles?
It has a population of 2,719 million and enough attractions to satisfy the 50.2 million tourists who come here every year.
If you will soon be one of those tourists bear in mind that when travelling to the Windy City, there are certain things you are not allowed to miss. Here are some of the things you must do if you are around: Continue reading “Chicago. The ultimate guide to the Windy City”
“The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.” – Henry David Thoreau. What a beautiful quote. I think solo adventures are amazing because not only you get to explore new places, but you also get the chance to explore your inner self, and this is actually one of the reasons I love travelling. However, always go prepared. Ask yourself the following questions to figure out if solo travelling is for you or not. Continue reading “Solo Travel – Is It Your Thing?”
I decided to make it official: 2016 was an amazing year for Holiday on my Mind. The blog was launched on 7 September and it already reached over 4000 readers from across the globe – that means around 1000 views per month (if you are a blogger yourself you know this is a big deal for a new blog). It is an honor knowing that 4000 people chose to read MY blog when there are millions, millions of other travel blogs out there. I remember I felt drunk when I reached over 100 shares for the first time, when my Switzerland’s Top Christmas Markets blog post was repined 600 times, or when my Facbeook and Twitter pages got 1000 followers each. This wouldn’t have been possible without your help – yes the reader’s help because when you love writing, the only thing that will give you more satisfaction than writing itself is knowing that other people enjoy reading your work and find it helpful. Before I get too emotional, I would like to share my top 10 pieces of the year (judged after the amount of views they received). Continue reading “Your Favorites. Best Travel Destinations of 2016”
